Enriching Teaching

Learning objects are also useful to instructors. For example, learning objects:

  • Provide a new way to draw on the creativity and expertise of colleagues (faculty comment)
  • Promote efficiencies in teaching common facts and in understanding, integrating and applying complex concepts (faculty comment)
  • Can be used in classroom or online lectures and discussions, or to promote independent learning

  • Support course goals and objectives; address a specific instructional need (faculty comment)
  • Can be sequenced and aggregated to customize learning
  • Can be reordered and reused across courses and educational levels
  • Promote the importance of context to meaning
  • Go beyond acquiring information to supporting inquiry and constructing meaning (faculty comment)
  • Some learning objects have a component for assessing learning
  • Provide a learner-centered way to promote self-directed exploration, self reflection, self discovery and application of theory to professional practice
