Teaching with Learning Objects

Enriching learning

The use of learning objects can enhance the learning environment for students in these ways:

  • Present content in a new and interesting way
  • Promote learning as a dynamic activity with many paths and options
  • Engage the senses of the learner, as well as the mind
  • Address learners' varied learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic as well as intellectual and interpersonal)
  • Provide new ways to interact with instructors and other class members
  • Provide new ways to understand, integrate and apply complex concepts
  • Promote the expectation that learners will use technology for lifelong, independent learning
  • Promote the importance of context to meaning
  • Promote self-paced learning with a self-assessment component
  • Promote a new approach to active learning, critical thinking and development of professional judgment through discussion, self-directed exploration, independent reflection, self discovery, relating new information to past experience/learning, and application of new knowledge to professional practice
