Teaching with Learning Objects

Tips and Tricks

Have you had an exciting success with using NEAT or other learning objects? Or did you encounter some obstacles and frustrations? In either case, this is a place to share your experience with your colleagues.

Diane Lauver, NP, PhD and faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Nursing, will discuss her success with developing and using learning objects in her course.

Some points to consider:

  • How did you identify which course goals and objectives could be enriched with learning objects?
  • What repositories and other sources did you use to locate learning objects? What was positive and negative about your experience?
  • During the process of locating the appropriate learning object(s), how did you keep track of the potential learning objects you were finding?
  • How did you assess the quality of the learning object(s)?
  • What was your experience, if any, with copyright issues?
  • What technological barriers, if any, did you encounter?
  • How did your students benefit from the learning object(s)?
  • What was your experience with sequencing multiple learning objects into a learning path?
  • How did you assess whether the learning object met its instructional goal?
  • What other positive or negative experiences or comments would you like to share?
